Short answer: Tap the bookmark icon under any Bluesky post to save it, then open Saved from the main menu to find it later. Bookmarks are private – unlike likes, nobody can see what you've saved, and the author isn't notified. They sync to your account, so they follow you between devices.

Below: step-by-step instructions, what's private and what isn't, bookmarks vs likes, how to migrate old 📌 replies, and the limits worth knowing about.

How to Bookmark a Post on Bluesky

Bookmarking works the same on iPhone, Android and the web:

  1. Find the post you want to keep in your timeline, a feed, a thread or search.
  2. Tap the bookmark icon in the row of buttons under the post, next to the like button.
  3. The icon fills in to show the post is saved. Tap it again any time to remove the bookmark.
  4. To see everything you've saved, open Saved from the app's main navigation.

You can bookmark any post you can see, including replies, quote posts and posts with images or video. Bookmarking doesn't change anything about the post and doesn't appear anywhere public.

Where to Find Your Bookmarks on Bluesky

Saved posts live in their own Saved section, reached from the app's main navigation (the menu or sidebar, depending on your device). The newest bookmarks appear first.

If a saved post was later deleted by its author, or the account was removed, it won't load anymore. Bookmarks point to the original post; they aren't a copy. If you need a permanent copy of something, take a screenshot or save the text, and for your own posts, keep a backup of your account.

Are Bluesky Bookmarks Private?

Yes. This is the main reason bookmarks exist. Almost everything you do on Bluesky is a public record in your account's repository: posts, likes, reposts, follows, even blocks. Bookmarks are different. They're stored privately by your account's server, not published to the network, and nobody else can see them – not the post's author, not your followers, and not tools that read the public firehose.

  • The author isn't notified when you bookmark their post.
  • Nobody can see who bookmarked a post, unlike likes, where anyone can open the list of likers.
  • Bookmarks don't affect your feeds the way likes can feed into recommendations.

Bookmarks vs Likes: Which Should You Use?

Like Bookmark
Who can see it Everyone Only you
Author notified Yes No
Others can see who did it Yes No
Easy to find later Only through your own Likes tab or a tool Yes, in Saved
Signals to feeds and the author Yes No

Use a like to tell someone you liked it. Use a bookmark to keep something for yourself – a recipe, a job listing, a long thread to read later, or anything you'd rather not announce. Plenty of people do both. Our guide to whether Bluesky likes are public explains why "liking to save" leaks more than people expect.

Good uses for bookmarks

  • Read-later queue – long threads, articles and link posts you don't have time for right now
  • Reference – how-to threads, code snippets, recipes and recommendations you'll want again
  • Job and event posts – save the listing, then remove it once you've applied or the date has passed
  • Research – collect posts on a topic without signaling interest to the authors or your followers
  • Reply later – bookmark a post you want to respond to thoughtfully, then come back to it

Moving Old 📌 Replies Into Bookmarks

Before bookmarks, a common workaround was replying to a post with a 📌 emoji, which a community feed then collected into a personal "saved" list. It worked, but every pin was a public reply on someone else's post.

When bookmarks launched, a migration tool appeared that turns those old pins into private bookmarks and optionally deletes the public 📌 replies. If you used the pin trick, it's worth doing once: you keep your saves and remove a trail of public replies. If you'd rather clean up manually, search your own replies with the from:me operator – see the Bluesky search operators guide.

Limits and Workarounds

No folders, tags or search

As of October 2026, Saved is one chronological list. If you save a lot, it gets long. Workarounds:

  • Remove bookmarks once you've acted on them, so the list stays a to-do list rather than an archive.
  • For accounts, use a list instead. If you keep bookmarking the same people, add them to a private-purpose list and pin it as a feed. Remember that lists themselves are public.
  • For topics, follow a hashtag or a custom feed rather than bookmarking every post. See how to follow hashtags.

Not in your public backup

Because bookmarks aren't part of your public repository, tools that back up a Bluesky account from public data – including Skyscraper's free Account Backups – won't include them. That's the flip side of being private.

Third-party apps

Bookmarks sync through your account, so any app that supports Bluesky's bookmarks shows the same list. An app that hasn't added support simply won't show them; your saves are still there in the official app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Bluesky have bookmarks?

Yes. Bluesky added private bookmarks, also called Saved Posts, in September 2025. Tap the bookmark icon under any post to save it and open Saved from the main navigation to see them.

Are Bluesky bookmarks private?

Yes. Bookmarks are visible only to you. They aren't published to the network like likes are, the author isn't notified, and nobody can see who saved a post.

Where do I find my saved posts on Bluesky?

Open Saved from the app's main navigation, in the menu or sidebar depending on your device. Your bookmarks are listed there with the newest first.

Does someone know if I bookmark their post on Bluesky?

No. Bookmarking sends no notification and creates no public record, so the author can't see that you bookmarked their post.

Do Bluesky bookmarks sync between devices?

Yes. Bookmarks are stored with your account rather than on one device, so they appear wherever you sign in with an app that supports them.

Can I organize Bluesky bookmarks into folders?

Not as of October 2026. Saved is a single chronological list. Remove bookmarks you've finished with, and use lists or custom feeds for accounts and topics you save often.
