Yes, there is a native Bluesky app for Mac. Skyscraper runs on macOS 15.2 and later as a real Mac app, not the iPhone app stretched into a window: it has a multi-column layout, a full menu bar with a Post menu, standard keyboard shortcuts, arrow-key and vim navigation, drag and drop, a Settings window and widgets. It is free, with an optional Pro subscription.

Here is what that means in practice, with every keyboard shortcut taken from the app itself.

Columns, Like a Desk Full of Feeds

Choose View → Columns, or the Panels button at the bottom of the sidebar, to show up to four columns. The first column follows the sidebar. Each extra column can be a feed (Following, a custom feed, a list), Notifications, Chats or Explore.

Three width presets decide how space is shared: Equal, Wide Left or Wide Right, where one column gets double width. That is the setup for a wide main timeline with a narrow notifications column beside it.

Your layout is remembered per account on that Mac. Drop from four columns to one to focus, go back to four later, and the columns you had come back, including after a relaunch.

The focused column

Keyboard commands act on one column at a time. The focused column is marked with a small pulsing diamond beside its title; the others hold still. Click a column, or press ⌘[ and ⌘], to move focus. If you prefer less motion, Reduce Motion turns the pulse into a steady glow.

Two Accounts, Side by Side

This is the feature people who run a personal account and a project account ask for. Any feed column can read as any account you are signed in to. Open the column's header menu, go to its Account section, and pick one.

From then on, that column is that account. It loads, scrolls and refreshes on its own, and likes, reposts and replies from it go out as that column's account, not whichever account is active in the sidebar. Put your personal Following on the left and your project's Following on the right, and you never switch back and forth again.

Notifications, Chats and Explore columns follow the active account. To change the active account, use the switch icon on the Settings row in the sidebar, the Account menu in the menu bar, ⇧⌘A, or the Dock menu. Signing in to more than one account needs Skyscraper Pro.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Every shortcut lives in the menu bar, so you can discover them by reading the menus. The Post menu acts on the highlighted post in the focused column. These are the shortcuts the app ships with:

ShortcutAction
⌘NNew Post
⌥⌘NNew Window
⌘1–⌘5Timeline, Notifications, Chats, Explore, Profile
⌘FSearch
⇧⌘LChoose Feed
⇧⌘RRefresh
⇧⌘ASwitch Account (with more than one account)
⌘,Settings
⌘[ / ⌘]Focus previous / next column
⌘↑ / ⌘↓Top / bottom of the timeline
⌃⌘←Back
⌘RReply to the highlighted post
⌘LLike / Unlike
⌘TRepost / Undo Repost
⌘'Quote Post
⌘DAdd / Remove Bookmark
⌘PShow the author's profile
⇧⌘CCopy Link
⌥⌘CCopy Post Text
⇧⌘OOpen in Browser
⌥⌘SShare
⌃⌥⌘L, T, QView Likes, Reposts, Quotes
⌘↩Send the post (in the composer)
⌘+ / ⌘- / ⌘0Larger / smaller / actual text size
⌘/Show all keyboard shortcuts

A few choices are deliberate. ⌘P shows a profile because there is nothing in a timeline to print. Reply took ⌘R, so Refresh is ⇧⌘R. And none of the post actions are bare letters, because an unmodified key in a menu would swallow that letter when you type in the search field or composer.

Moving Around with Arrow Keys and Vim Motions

The timeline behaves like a Mac list. Arrow keys move a highlight from post to post, and in the Chats and Notifications columns they move between rows. Return opens what is highlighted.

KeyAction
↑ / ↓Move the highlight to the previous / next post (or row, in Chats and Notifications)
→ or ↩Open the highlighted post
←Back out
Space / ⇧SpacePage down / up
EscClear the highlight, then back out of the column
j / kNext / previous post (vim motion)
g g / ⇧GTop / bottom of the timeline (vim motion)

The vim motions are optional. Turn them off in Settings under Timeline → Keyboard if you never want a stray j to move anything; the arrow, space and page keys keep working either way.

The Mac Details

  • A real composer. Paste a screenshot with ⌘V, or drag images and videos straight in from Finder. ⌘↩ posts, Esc cancels.
  • Drag images out. Drag a photo from a post into Finder, Mail or Messages.
  • An image viewer you can page. Images open in a resizable window; the left and right arrow keys move through a multi-image post, with ALT text, OCR and save controls visible.
  • A Settings window on ⌘,, like any Mac app.
  • A Dock menu. Right-click the Dock icon for New Post, the main sections, Refresh and your accounts.
  • A Share Extension (macOS 26 and later). Share a link from Safari or another app straight into a new Skyscraper post.
  • Text size that actually scales the timeline, with ⌘+, ⌘- and ⌘0.
  • Widgets. Skyscraper's widgets – Timeline, Followers Count, Post Performance, the weekly and monthly recaps and more – are in the Mac widget gallery, each pointable at a specific account. Timeline Photo comes in Extra Large on the Mac.

The rest of Skyscraper comes along too: custom feeds and lists, DMs and group chats, search and Explore, Community Themes, and Saved Posts.

Honest Limits

  • Columns are presets, not draggable dividers. Equal, Wide Left or Wide Right.
  • Four columns maximum. Past that, the columns get too narrow to read on most screens anyway.
  • Only feed columns can be pinned to another account. Notifications and Chats follow the active account.
  • macOS 15.2 or later. Older Macs are not supported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a native Bluesky app for Mac?

Yes. Skyscraper is a native Mac app for Bluesky that runs on macOS 15.2 or later. It has its own menu bar, keyboard shortcuts, multi-column layout and Settings window, rather than running the iPhone app in a window.

Can I see two Bluesky accounts side by side on Mac?

Yes. Open a second column, use the Account section of that column's header menu, and pick the other account. That column loads, scrolls and refreshes as that account, and likes, reposts and replies from it go out as that account. Adding a second account requires Skyscraper Pro.

What are the keyboard shortcuts for Bluesky on Mac?

In Skyscraper, Command-N writes a new post, Command-R replies, Command-L likes, Command-T reposts and Command-1 to Command-5 switch sections. Press Command-/ for the full list, or read the menu bar, where every shortcut is listed.

Does the Bluesky Mac app support vim keys?

Skyscraper does. j and k move between posts, g g jumps to the top and Shift-G to the bottom, acting on the focused column. You can turn them off in Settings under Timeline and Keyboard; the arrow, space and page keys keep working either way.

Are there Bluesky widgets on Mac?

Yes. Skyscraper's widgets, such as Timeline, Followers Count, Post Performance and the recaps, are available on the Mac from the widget gallery, and Timeline Photo also comes in an extra large size there.
