Short answer: give football three tabs: a list of reporters, a search for your team's hashtag, and a live search for game day. That's it. You don't have to follow fifty new accounts, and your regular timeline stays readable on the days you don't care about football.

We've already covered the best accounts and hashtags for the playoffs and the NFL starter packs worth knowing. This post is about the setup: how to arrange Bluesky so a Sunday, a Monday night or a fantasy Tuesday just works, for any team, all season long.

The Quick Answer

TabWhat it isWhen you use it
1. ReportersA pinned list of insiders and writersAll week, for news and injuries
2. Team hashtagA search for your team's hashtag, newest firstGame day and the days around it
3. Game searchA live search for the game or primetime hashtagDuring the game

Tab 1: A List of Reporters and Insiders

News breaks first from a small number of people, so put them in one place. Make a curation list and add your team's beat writers, a few national insiders and an analyst or two. Ten to fifty accounts is a good size.

You don't have to find them one by one. Open a few NFL starter packs, and add the reporters you recognize. Then pin the list as a feed and it becomes its own chronological tab: every post, newest first, nothing ranked or hidden, and no need to follow any of them. The Following feed doesn't fill up with football, either.

Tab 2: Your Team's Hashtag, Newest First

A hashtag search is where the fans are. Pick your team's hashtag (#GoPackGo, #ChiefsKingdom and #BillsMafia are three of many in our team hashtag list) and, importantly, sort by Latest. The default Top results favor popular posts; during a game you want the order things happened.

Search operators make this much sharper. A few that work well for football:

SearchWhat it does
#GoPackGo lang:enTeam hashtag, English-language posts only
"fourth down" #NFLThe exact phrase, in NFL posts
from:rapsheet.bsky.socialPosts by one insider you follow, even outside a list
domain:espn.com #NFLNFL posts that link to one outlet
#NFL since:2026-10-18 until:2026-10-19A past game day (dates are UTC)

A note on that last one: the dates are in UTC, so a night game in the US can land on the next date. When you search a past Sunday, widen the window by a day. The full list of operators is in our advanced search guide.

Tab 3: A Live Search for the Game Itself

For the game you're actually watching, search the primetime hashtag (#SundayNightFootball or #MondayNightFootball), your team's name or both teams' hashtags, then keep it open on Latest. In Skyscraper you can turn on Live results so new posts show up on their own, about every 30 seconds by default, without moving what you're reading. Our post on filters, live results and pinned searches covers how it works.

If you want football on your TV, Skyscraper for Apple TV can play a single hashtag in modes like Media Wall, a grid of the photos and videos people are posting. It's a good second screen for a game you're watching with friends.

A Game-Day Routine

  1. Morning. Check the Reporters tab for inactives and weather.
  2. An hour before kickoff. Open the team hashtag tab on Latest for the mood in the building.
  3. During the game. Switch to the live search. Skip the Top tab: you want what's happening now.
  4. After the final whistle. Go back to the Reporters tab for postgame quotes and injury news.
  5. Monday and Tuesday. Pin a #FantasyFootball search if you play, and unpin it when the week's over.

Dodging Spoilers

Watching on a delay? Add a few mute words for the evening: both team names, their hashtags and words like final or score. Mute words hide matching posts from your timeline, and in Skyscraper 1.8 they apply to notifications too. Delete them when you're caught up.

Get Told When It Matters

For breaking news about your team while you're away from the app, an email alert is better than checking. The keyword alerts tool emails you when a name or phrase shows up on Bluesky, so you can watch for a player's name or a trade.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I follow NFL games live on Bluesky?

Search the hashtag for your game or team, switch to the Latest tab so the newest posts come first, and refresh as you watch. In Skyscraper you can turn on Live results so new posts arrive on their own.

What are the best NFL hashtags on Bluesky?

Start with #NFL, #SundayNightFootball, #MondayNightFootball and #FantasyFootball, then add your team's own hashtag, such as #GoPackGo, #ChiefsKingdom or #BillsMafia. Our NFL hashtag guide lists one for every team.

How do I find NFL reporters to follow on Bluesky?

Look through the NFL starter packs that other people have built, then put the reporters you like into a list so you can read them in one place. You don't have to follow everyone you add to a list.

Can I avoid spoilers on Bluesky if I'm watching a game late?

Yes. Mute the team names, the opponent and words like final or score for the evening, and your timeline, lists and notifications will skip those posts. Unmute afterward.

Does a Bluesky list show reposts and replies the way Following does?

Not exactly. A list feed is built from its members' own posts in order, so it won't always match how your Following feed treats reposts and replies. That's one reason it stays focused.
