Short answer: add your accounts to Skyscraper, pick Unified from the feed selector, and everything you follow lands in one timeline. To post, choose several accounts in the composer and send once. Both work with Bluesky and Mastodon accounts, and with two accounts on the same network.
If you haven't connected Mastodon yet, start with how to add a Mastodon account. This post covers what you can do once you have more than one account in the app.
The Quick Answer
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Unified timeline | Every account's Following feed in one combined timeline |
| Merged notifications | Notifications from every account in one list |
| Account badge | Shows which account a post came from |
| Consolidate Accounts | Shows a cross-posted post once, not twice |
| Cross-Post | Write once, post to several accounts at the same time |
The Unified Timeline
Open the feed selector at the top of your timeline and choose Unified. Skyscraper merges the Following feed of every account you've included into a single timeline, newest first. Your Notifications are combined the same way, so there's one list to check instead of two.
The important part is knowing who you're reading as. Every post has a badge showing which account it came from, and Bluesky and Mastodon accounts are colored differently under every theme, so you can see at a glance which network you're on. When you reply, like or boost, the action goes out as that account: reply to a Mastodon post and it's your Mastodon account answering.
Each account has an Include in Unified Timeline switch, so a work account or an alt can stay out of the combined feed. You can switch to a single account's own feed at any time to see only that account's posts.
Seeing the same post twice
If you cross-post, or follow the same person on both networks, a post can arrive twice. Consolidate Accounts fixes that. When the same post turns up from two accounts, the Unified timeline shows it once, from your preferred network (or the first account when both are on the same network). A post that only exists on one network still shows normally.
You can also choose, person by person, which account's copy you want to see. Turn consolidation off and every copy shows. Nobody is unfollowed either way.
Cross-Post: Write Once, Post Everywhere
In the composer, choose the accounts you want to post from, and write the post once. Skyscraper sends it to each account. It works from inside the app and from the share sheet, so you can share a link or photo from another app to Bluesky and Mastodon together.
The rules that matter
- Limits follow the stricter network. Posting to Bluesky and Mastodon together uses Bluesky's 300-character limit, so the post fits on both. If you write more than that, post separately and give Mastodon the longer version.
- Images are capped by your Mastodon server. Each server sets how many images a post can have. If you've attached more, Skyscraper tells you to remove some before cross-posting.
- Polls, images and video don't all mix. A Mastodon post can have a poll or media, not both, and one video or images, not both.
- If one account fails, Skyscraper tells you which accounts it posted to, and tapping Post again retries only the rest.
A cross-post is two separate posts on two separate networks. Replies, likes and boosts on one don't show up on the other, so check both accounts' notifications. The merged Notifications list puts them in one place.
Who This Is For
- People on both networks. Read one timeline and stop alternating between two apps.
- Anyone with a personal and a work account. Two Bluesky accounts work the same way.
- Creators and projects. Post an announcement everywhere in one step, then read the replies in one list.
On a Mac, there's more. Any column can read as any account, so you can put Bluesky and Mastodon side by side, each with its own scroll and refresh. See the Mac columns guide for how.
What You Need
The Unified timeline and Cross-Post need more than one account. Adding a second account is part of Skyscraper Pro, and so is signing in to Mastodon, which is still in beta. A single free account works as before.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see Bluesky and Mastodon in one timeline?
Yes. In Skyscraper 1.8, the Unified timeline combines every account's Following feed into one, and merges their notifications. Each post carries a badge showing which account it came from.
Can I post to Bluesky and Mastodon at the same time?
Yes. Cross-Post lets you write a post once and send it to several of your accounts at once, from the app or the share sheet.
What's the character limit when I cross-post to Bluesky and Mastodon?
Posting to both together uses Bluesky's 300-character limit, so the post fits on both networks.
Will I see the same post twice in the Unified timeline?
Not if you leave Consolidate Accounts on. When the same post arrives from two of your accounts, it's shown once, from your preferred network. Turn it off and every copy shows.
Do I need Skyscraper Pro for the Unified timeline and Cross-Post?
Both need more than one account, and adding a second account is part of Skyscraper Pro, as is signing in to Mastodon.
