How It Differs From the Official Bluesky App
- It's native. Skyscraper is built with Apple's own frameworks on each platform, rather than one shared codebase stretched to fit. The Mac app has windows, menus and right-click menus; the Apple TV app is designed to be watched from the couch.
- It keeps your place. Your reading position is kept across tabs, feeds and launches, and syncs between devices over iCloud.
- Bluesky and Mastodon together. With Pro you can read both in one Unified timeline and post to several accounts at once.
- A Reader tab. Follow RSS feeds, Standard.site publications, Micro.blog and YouTube channels in the same app, with Feedbin, FreshRSS, Inkwell and NewsBlur sync.
- Stats and recaps. Activity heatmaps, posting streaks, and week, month and year recaps of your account.
- More moderation pages. Separate Blocked Accounts and Muted Accounts pages, mute words that also apply to notifications, and a View Labels screen.
What it doesn't change: it's still Bluesky. Your posts, follows, lists, blocks and feeds are the same in every app, so you can switch back and forth or use both.
Signing In
Skyscraper supports Bluesky's OAuth sign-in, so you can sign in through Bluesky without giving the app your password, or with an app password if you prefer. Accounts are stored in the iOS Keychain. It also works with accounts on other servers, including self-hosted ones and Eurosky. For Mastodon, see how to add a Mastodon account.
Beyond the App
Skyscraper also runs a few free web tools: trending Bluesky hashtags, keyword alerts and account backups, all on the Bluesky Tools page. This blog covers the AT Protocol, Bluesky features and growth data.
